What are the contraindications to Holistic Massage?
Whilst massage is often the natural solution to various ailments – sometimes it is best to avoid treatment. Feel free to give me a call ahead of booking to discuss whether it is safe to practice massage if you have any of the following health issues:-
Inflammation: phlebitis (inflammation of a vein), dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), arthritis (inflammation of the joints)
High blood pressure – sometimes light massage is ok.
Infectious diseases: such as the influenza virus (the flu), HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis or pertussis (whooping cough).
Hernia - massage is not suitable on or around the hernia.
Osteoporosis - only light massage can be applied.
Varicose veins - massage directly over varicose veins can worsen the problem.
Broken bones - a little light massage to the surrounding areas can improve circulation and be quite helpful.
Skin problems, such as rashes, wounds, bruises, burns, boils, blisters, and cuts or lesions. The massage can be applied in other areas of the body.
Cancer can spread through the lymphatic system for that reason always check with your doctor before receiving a massage.
Under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Diarrhoea and vomiting
Recent operations or acute injuries
Undiagnosed pain. lumps and bumps
Other conditions and diseases: Diabetes, asthma, and other chronic illnesses, you should seek your doctor’s opinion before receiving a massage.
